Mental Health & Other Priority Diseases
In Uganda, mental health illnesses and other priority diseases like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and chronic illnesses remain under-addressed. Stigma, limited resources, and lack of trained professionals leave many—especially children, youth, and caregivers—without the help they need.

The Problem
In Uganda, mental health conditions and priority diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and chronic illnesses remain largely under-addressed. Many affected individuals, particularly children, youth, and caregivers, face stigma, limited access to services, and a severe shortage of trained professionals. These barriers often result in delayed diagnosis, untreated conditions, and worsening health outcomes. Without accessible, affordable, and culturally sensitive support, vulnerable groups continue to suffer in silence, perpetuating cycles of poor health, social exclusion, and reduced quality of life.
Our Approach
At KMHHU, we use a comprehensive, evidence-based, and community-focused approach to address mental health and other priority diseases. Our services include counselling, psychological first aid, mental health screenings, and trigger management tailored to individual needs. Working with medical partners, we ensure timely referrals for psychiatric care and treatment. Through school programs, community outreach, and tele-counselling, we make services accessible, reduce stigma, and integrate health education with prevention, empowering communities to recognize early signs, seek help, and adopt healthier lifestyles.
